Free-ride mentality hurts U.S.

SHARE Free-ride mentality hurts U.S.

While many may never be John F. Kennedy fans, his intuitive statement, made 40 years ago, still holds the most promising advice for our current convoluted society. "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country" goes far beyond the political arena. The clamor in our country these days is for a free ride. "What's in it for me?" "How can I blame someone else for what I don't have?" "I've been offended. Punish someone." The act of tearing something down has never built something else up. Subduing the rich does not give wealth to the poor. Debasing someone else does not add stature to to the debaser. When we stop asking others to give to us and start giving our best to build something of value, we will see true growth in our homes and nation.
