Helen Moss McClurg 1921 ~ 2007 LAYTON - Helen Moss McClurg, 86, born March 6, 1921 in Layton, Utah to Hazen B. Moss and Rosezella Higgs Moss, died peacefully on April 18, 2007 surrounded by her loving family. Helen was a graduate of Davis High School where she met her "Prince Charming", John Otto McClurg Jr, and was sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City temple June 30, 1941. After marriage, Helen and John lived four years in Santa Monica, CA and two years in Kileen, TX, then returning to Layton, UT which has been their home for the past 60 years. Helen was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in numerous capacities including Primary Teacher, Primary President, Cub Scout Den Leader and served in the Relief Society. She loved outdoor activities with her family including camping in Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, Arches National Park and picnicking in the Uintah Mountains. Helen was an avid snowmobiler where she was able to satisfy her "need for speed" and accompanied John in guiding snowmobile tours in Yellowstone National Park and surrounding areas during their retired years. Helen also served as a hostess and tour guide at the Lion House for several years and loved to retell the inspiring stories of Brigham Young and his family. Helen helped her daughters understand their divine worth as daughters of God, taught them the importance of motherhood, creating a Christ-like home, and to be proper ladies. She taught her sons the importance of honoring their priesthood and to be responsible fathers and husbands. Helen is survived by her husband of 65 years, John O. McClurg Jr., and children Kathleen Holbrook of Kaysville, UT; John G. (Shirley) McClurg of Syracuse, UT; David L. (Leslie) McClurg of Layton, UT; and Julie (Mike) Norman of La Center, WA. She is survived by 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren with four new ones on the way. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen Chapel, 2435 East Canyon Rim Drive, Layton, UT. Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
