Teach children respect

SHARE Teach children respect

When I was a child, President Lyndon Johnson made a stop in our small town of Casper, Wyo. Even though my parents were both Republicans and did not support his handling of the Vietnam War or other social policies, they taught us the values of hospitality, civility and respect for those who serve in public office.

I do not agree with many of my mayor's policies, his protests or unsubstantiated attacks on our president, but if Rocky Anderson was invited to speak at my child's high school graduation, I would teach my child to be respectful. I would never want to take away someone's right to disagree or protest, but I wonder, what are we teaching our children today?
