A two-alarm house fire in West Jordan Thursday night is being called suspicious by investigators.

The fire started about 10:30 p.m. near 7000 South and 5100 West. An elderly woman owned the home but hadn't been living there for a couple of months, said West Jordan Fire Battalion Chief Marc McElreath.

Her adult son, however, came over frequently to walk the dog that still lived in the home, he said. The son told investigators he went over to walk the dog Thursday night, and when he returned the house was on fire.

The fire was determined to have started in the basement.
