BYU received its second commitment from a football player invited to the 2007 Army All-American high school combine as junior safety Daniel Sorensen of Colton, Calif., pledged to sign with the Cougars.

Sorensen, who has been offered by Mississippi of the SEC, committed to BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall on Monday.

"This place is where I feel comfortable," said Sorensen, who attended Monday's practice with his cousin, Bingham all-state kicker Justin Sorensen, who has already committed with Miner teammate Austin Holt. Daniel Sorensen and Holt were invited to the Army prep combine earlier this year.

Sorensen played tight end, safety and quarterback for Colton High, earning All-CIF honors. He was named the offensive MVP in the San Andreas League, where he was also on the first-team as a safety.

He earned Riverside Press All-County honors on offense and defense and was Colton's player of the year as a junior. He has been nominated to receive the National Football Foundation's top regional honor in the Southern Section of the CIF.

This past season, Sorensen had 82 tackles and seven interceptions with two fumble recoveries. BYU recruited Sorensen to play safety. The youngest of five brothers, who all played football, Sorensen intends on enrolling at BYU with Justin as freshmen in 2008.

He is the grandson of Wilson Sorensen, early founder of Utah Technical College. His father, Corey, is nephew of one of BYU's first all-Americans, Reed Nilsen, who was the first Cougar invited to the East-West Shrine game and captain of the 1942 team that registered BYU's first victory over Utah.

Also attending BYU's Monday practice was Washington prep running back and defensive end Jerry Bruner, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect from Evergreen High near Vancouver who has received an offer from the Cougars.
