BOX ELDER COUNTY — A 39-year-old Riverton man was rescued Friday after his vehicle became stuck in alkali mud on Crater Island.

Family members reported the man was missing after he failed to return home Wednesday.

The Box Elder County Sheriff's Office, its search and rescue team and a Utah Highway Patrol helicopter participated in a search from Promontory Point to the Nevada border.

The man was taken by helicopter to a rescue operations base camp, then flown to Salt Lake City where he was reunited with his family.
