Japan's Prince Naruhito has successful surgery

Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito successfully underwent surgery Wednesday to remove a growth from his small intestine, doctors said.

Doctors at the University of Tokyo Hospital took two hours to remove the polyp in a noninvasive, endoscopic operation, according to Imperial Household Agency spokesman Yasuo Moriyama.

"The surgery was performed smoothly as planned and ended successfully," said palace physician Dr. Ichiro Kanazawa.

Palace doctors found the polyp in Naruhito's duodenum, the first section of the small intestine, during a regular health check in March.
