Salt Lake City police arrested a man accused of breaking a baby's leg at a downtown homeless shelter.
Paramedics responded to the Road Home shelter Sunday afternoon and took the 2-month-old boy and his father to the hospital. Officers said the father had left a 2-year-old boy behind at the shelter.
At the hospital, police said the father told officers his wife had been hospitalized earlier in the day with an asthma attack. He had been left in charge of their children.
Police said the man told officers that when the baby wouldn't stop crying, he picked up the boy and shook him by the legs, breaking one of them.
The father was booked into jail on investigation of child abuse. State child protective services was called to investigate, police said.
