Harold M. Short

Harold Matt Short, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on Aug. 19, 2007 at his home with his wife by his side.He was born November 13, 1921 in Montpelier, Idaho to Harold Leslie Short and Blanche Schmit Short. He graduated from South High School and LDS Business College.
He served in the Army during World War II in Germany, Belgium and France for over three years. He received the rank of 1st Sergeant. He was proud to have served his country. He loved sports of all kinds. He played tennis, handball, baseball, racquetball and golf, winning many awards and championships. He was a huge fan of the U of U's basketball and football teams. His life-long hobby became golf. He could play wherever he traveled and with whomever he chose. A tradition of golf on Father's Day weekend at Oakridge Country Club, started with his sons. In time his grandsons joined the group. They will miss this tradition. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hal served as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple for eight years. He loved his work there and was dedicated to fulfilling that responsibility until he was physically unable.
Hal married Bessie Fisher in 1944. They later divorced. He married Joyce Nance on January 2, 1970 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 20, 1995.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children: Judy Scharffs (Gil), Grant Fisher (Adona), Robert Harold, and Jamie Alexander Thoman. At the time of his passing he had 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Helen and brother, LeRoy.
Funeral services for Hal will be held on Friday August 24, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Salt Lake City 11th Ward, 951 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, UT. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East So. Temple on Thursday evening, from 6- 8 p.m. and on Friday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
