Cecil E. Payne

1915 ~ 2007

Father and grandfather, Cecil E. Payne, 91 years of age, passed away on Aug. 8, 2007 in Salt Lake City, Utah. After many years of service, his guardian angels are finally at rest.

Cecil was born Nov. 18, 1915 in Georgetown, Idaho, the third child of Lot Leo Payne and Hattie Hayes Payne. He had five siblings: Ashley, Melissa, Ezra, Grace and Berdean. He had many fond memories of growing up with his family, despite the many hardships. His favorite times were when he could miss a day of school and drive the family

horses.

Uncle Sam drafted Cecil into the army on September 9, 1941. He served during World War II in California, Washington, England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Holland, and Germany until the war's end in 1945. He served his country to maintain peace and honor and upheld the standards of righteousness. Cecil was valiant in his service and he remembered his God.

Cecil married Jean Sparks on April 9, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. He attended school at the University of Utah and LDS Business College. He worked at various automotive companies. One of his aspirations about how he wanted others to see him truly best describes him: "He worked long hours, he never turned down overtime, and he invested in the future. He wanted his children to remember him as the man who sort of inspired them to stand on their own two feet." He was true and faithful to the Lord and served in many positions for the LDS Church. He was blessed with a firmness of character.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Corey (Sue), daughter, Jan; son Mark (Dawn Rae); grandchildren, Amber, Angela (Jon), Craig, Tyler, Daniel, Chase, Seth, Dustin, Krystle, and Zach; brother, Ezra (Lawanda); brother, Berdean (Joyce).

Funeral services will be held on Sat. Aug. 11, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held on Friday, Aug. 10th from 6-8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary as well as one hour prior to services.

We would like to thank all the caregivers who kindly cared for Cecil throughout his illness.
