Calvin Leo Sutherland
"Gone Golfing and Fishing"
Cal was born on the Fourth of July 1924 in Salem, UT to Leo AllenSutherland and Claudia B.
Sutherland. He believed the world lit on fire in celebration of his birth.
On Nov. 21, 1942 Cal married Rowene Harding (deceased), they had four children: Brad (deceased), Diane, Roger and Kelly. On Sept. 17, 1987, he married his new love Alona Alvey Woodard. They lived happily in Salt Lake until an accidental fall led to his death on Aug. 19, 2007.
Cal is survived by his loving wife Alona, his children: Roger (Bonnie), Diane (Carl) Bott, Kelly (Rhonda), daughter-in-law Joan, Jim (Dollie) Woodard, Francine (Scott) Pollock; 17 grandchildren, 46 great-grand-children and five great-great- grandchildren. Brother: Neil (Trudy); sisters: Beverly Chandler and Nancy Alvey Asay, sister Iris (deceased) and brother Stan (deceased).
Cal proudly served in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II. Cal was as quick witted as they come, and was amazing with his guidance in our lives. He loved fishing at Strawberry, "teeing it up", camping and hunting with family and spent many hours playing his guitar and singing with his children and grandchildren. He leaves a legacy of laughter and wisdom. Cal was a true Patriarch and will be dearly missed. We will never forget his hardy laugh, jokes and song which reverberated throughout our lives. The family would like to give special thanks to the SICU Trauma Unit at the U of U Hospital for their respect and special care in his last days.
