Orla Charles (O.C.) Shurtliff, Jr.
1927 ~ 2007
BOUNTIFUL- Orla Charles Shurtliff Jr., 80, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 20, 2007.
O.C. was born February 3, 1927 in Ogden, Weber County, Utah to O.C. Shurtliff Sr. and Alberta
Carlson. He attended Ogden High School and graduated from the University of Utah. O.C. served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On June 28, 1948, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, he married the love of his life Arendina (Dena) Wolthuis. He felt like the luckiest man in the world to spend 59 years with his sweetheart.
O.C. loved his family; husband, father, grandfather, brother were not just titles, they were a way of living. You could always tell when dad was home because he was always whistling. The neighbors nicknamed him "Whistlin' O.C."
He was the Human Resource Director at: Continental Bakery, Marquart, Hercules, Eimco, Amalgamated Sugar Company, and at the V.A. Hospital in Salt Lake City. O.C. worked hard to be fair to employees and was well respected in his profession. He was always happy and positive and liked by all who knew him.
O.C. was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings: member of the Bishopric, Ward Clerk, High Priest Group Leader, and a temple ordinance worker in the Bountiful, Utah Temple. He had a strong testimony of the plan of salvation and eternal life with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Dena; their five children: Chris Rognon (Don), Reed Shurtliff (Syd), Kathy Baker (Carl), Diane Thurman (Jon), Karen Rosier (Robert); 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks to Life Path Hospice for the tender care of dad during the last years of his life and for the care givers who saw to his daily needs.
