I was somewhat surprised to see the absolute glee and fanfare with which the Deseret Morning News "reported" on the demise of the Key Bank tower. All I could see was a massive amount of "dust" spreading over the central city like one of the plagues from Cecil B. DeMille's "The Ten Commandments." Did anyone ask what was in the dust? Shades of downtown Manhattan recur, when Mayor Rudy Giuliani said it was OK to return to work in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attack. Now there are more than 40,000 New Yorkers complaining of mesothelioma, not to mention other lung diseases and cancers.
Add all this to our city's already poor air quality, and one would think the respiratory doctors should have a busy practice for years to come.
