SANDY — Police Monday were looking for a man who they say broke into a woman's house, attacked her and stole the rings she was wearing right off her fingers.
The incident happened just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday. A woman asleep in her room was awoken by her barking dog, said Sandy police Sgt. Victor Quezada. When the woman went downstairs to see what the commotion was about, she found a stranger in her kitchen.
As the woman turned to run back up the stairs, the man grabbed her by the shirt, "pulled her down, punched her four times in the face, choked her by a rope tie that had come off her clothing," Quezada said.
The attacker then grabbed two rings off the woman's finger before leaving.
The woman ran to her room, where she locked the door and called police. She was taken to the hospital with red marks around her neck and a swollen face, Quezada said.
Investigators believe the man entered through the back door but weren't sure Monday if it was locked or not. There were no signs of forced entry, Quezada said.
Police were looking for a man about 5-foot-10 with a medium build and blond spiky hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.
