Lake Powell Resorts & Marinas is hosting a Sustainable Cuisine Weekend Sept. 7-9 at the Lake Powell Resort located within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
"We are committed to increasing the use of organic and heirloom fruits and vegetables grown locally whenever possible, as well as eliminating the use of trans-fats and incorporating dairy products that are free of added bovine growth hormones," said Cathy McKeever, director of sales and marketing.
Highlights include a luncheon cooking class with executive chef Brandon Shubert on Saturday ($20) and a Canyon Princess four-course dinner cruise ($90). Guests can book a $550-per-couple package that includes two nights at the resort, dinner Friday and breakfast Saturday, as well as Saturday's luncheon and dinner (888-486-4665 or www.lakepowell.com).
Rib City opened a new restaurant last week at 2071 E. 9400 South, Sandy. Franchise owners are Vincent D'Onofrio, star of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," and Toni and Ron Jorgensen, D'Onofrio's sister and brother-in-law. The Jorgensens also own a Rib City in American Fork.
The restaurant offers barbecued baby back and spare ribs, beef and chicken. Diners have a choice of four different sauces: brown-sugar based sweet sauce, vinegar-based tangy sauce, Carolina mustard sauce or hot sauce (www.ribcity.com).
The Fall Downtown Dine O'Round takes place Sept. 14-30, with 35 Salt Lake City restaurants participating. Each restaurant will offer a three-course prixe-fixe dinner for either $15 or $30. In addition, many will serve a two-course, fixed-price lunch for $10 (www.dineoround.com).
