PLEASANT VIEW, Weber County — A husband and wife from Plain City were killed Tuesday when their car was hit head-on by a sport utility vehicle on U.S. 89 near 2700 North.
The crash occurred about 6 p.m. when the 18-year-old Willard man driving the SUV lost consciousness and crossed into oncoming traffic, said Pleasant View Police Chief Scott Jackson. The SUV did not brake and was traveling about 60 mph, Jackson said. The car, traveling about 45 mph, also did not brake. Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage, Jackson said.
The 61-year-old man who was driving and his 57-year-old wife died at the scene. Both had to be extricated from the car, Jackson said. Their names were not released pending notification of family members.
The 18-year-old man was flown to Ogden Regional Medical Center with many injuries, Jackson said. None were life-threatening, however.
Medical personnel were trying to determine why the man passed out. He had no medical history that would indicate a cause, Jackson said.
U.S. 89 was closed in both directions, between 2550 North and 2700 North, until about 9:15 p.m., Jackson said.
