OREM — Audiences can take a trip back to the 1980s and '90s with Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Richard Marx, who ruled the pop charts with nineteen Top 20 singles and seven No. 1 hits. Marx is back and ready to fire up his fans — and win over some new ones — when he performs under the stars at the SCERA Shell.
Marx will perform his huge hits including "Right Here Waiting," "Now and Forever," his debut single "Don't Mean Nothin'," as well as "Endless Summer Nights," "Hazard," "Shoulda Known Better," "Hold on to the Nights," "Angelia," "Satisfied" and "The Way She Loves Me." He'll also give fans a taste of songs from his acclaimed new album, My Own Best Enemy and show why he is as celebrated as a producer and songwriter as he is a live performer.
When Marx hit the music scene in the late 1980s, he immediately got his name in the record books as the first solo artist to have his first seven singles hit the top five on the U.S. charts. He records have done exceptionally well with more than 30 million sold, and in 2004 he received a Grammy Award with Luther Vandross for "Dance With My Father."
He has also had an exceptional behind-the-scenes career as a producer and songwriter. His clients are diverse and celebrated and include 'N Sync, Barbra Streisand, Josh Groban, Vince Gill, Chris Belli, Hugh Jackman and SHeDAISY. It's a career that began when he was a 5-year-old singing jingles. He continues as a major force in the music industry.
"We always try to offer our patrons a wide variety of music genres, and this summer we've got just about every decade covered. Music from the '80s is very popular right now, and you can't get a better representative than Richard Marx," said Adam Robertson, SCERA President.
The six finalists from the SCERA's Celebrity! will open the Marx concert. The finalists were narrowed down by judges from an original group of 75 singers. The winner will be announced at the Marx concert and be crowned SCERA Celebrity 2007 and start a year of performing opportunities throughout the state.
