Hill Air Force Base is among several organizations to be honored Friday during the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' first national "Train the Trainer" workshop at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Hill and others are being recognized for efforts to create a "donor-friendly America" by raising awareness of a critical need for organ and tissue donations. More than 300 Utah businesses are currently participating in a national program called "Workplace Partnership for Life," sponsored locally by the National Kidney Foundation of Utah and Idaho.

It's estimated there are more than 95,000 men, women and children who are waiting to receive a life-saving transplant — about 25,000 this year will receive a transplant according to the Department of Health and Human Services, about 18 people die each day waiting for a transplant, and one person is added every 13 minutes to the waiting list for a transplant.
