Yukus "Uke" Inouye

Yukus Yukiyoshi Inouye passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on August 22, 2007.
Yukus was born on April 1, 1916 to Chokichi and Towa Inouye. Yukus and Mary Mitsuye Tanaka were married for 55 years until her death in 1993. He thereafter married Gene Shimizu and was later divorced. Yukus married Betty Hisaye Nakamura on November 16, 1996. Yukus and Mary are the parents of six children: Ronald (Linda Ushio) of Scarsdale, NY; Carolyn (Ken Mano) of Pleasanton, CA; Donna (Keith Cavanaugh) of Sandy, UT; Gerry (Paul Yamashita) of Newark, CA; Jay Dee (Karen Youngstrom) of Herndon, VA; Vicki (Howard Maetani) of Orem, UT. Yukus and Mary have 26 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Betty has two children, Carol Iwasaki and Jeannie (Dale Sayama) and has four grandchildren and two great-grand-children.
Yukus has lived in Highland since 1943 and was instrumental in developing the Highland area. He initiated the development of the Alpine Country Club and the establishment of the Highland Water Company to develop the culinary water system for Highland. He has served in the Boy Scouts of America, in the Farm Bureau, and as a member of the Soil Conservation Service. He served six years as Utah County Commissioner. He has fulfilled leadership positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served three years in the Japan Tokyo Temple Presidency, and returned to serve another mission in the same temple.
Yukus loved to go fishing and was an avid BYU sports fan. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, sage advice and his generous and kind spirit. He was loved by many and will be fondly remembered by all.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25th at the Highland 11th Ward Chapel, 4679 W. Wasatch Dr, Highland, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 E. 100 N. in American Fork, Utah. An additional viewing will be held prior to the funeral on Saturday, August 25th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Highland 11th Ward Chapel. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 "N" Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highland City Library Foundation in memory of Yukus Inouye, Highland City Building, 5378 West 10400 North, Highland, Utah 84003. Yukus' desire was to one day see a library built in Highland.
