Utah Backcounty Volunteers — Organizes weeklong volunteer opportunities with the Bureau of Land Management, National Forest Service and National Park Service by recruiting and leading volunteers on service trips that restore, repair and maintain Utah's spectacular public lands. Currently seeking volunteers for fall service trips. Space limited, registration required.

Salvation Army — Volunteers needed to teach classes in beginning computers and ESL (English as a second Language) at the Salvation Army.

Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Program — Salt Lake County Aging Services needs low-income elderly persons to become a substantial influence in their community. Benefits include small non-taxable stipend that does not affect federal subsidies. They will serve in the Senior companion or Foster Grandparent Program.

Girl Scouts of Utah — Volunteers needed to help girls in local communities. Girl Scouts of Utah provides long and short-term volunteer opportunities to work with girls and/or adults, help at an event/program, serve on a committee, help with a six-nine week Outreach Program at Title-I Elementary Schools (one to two hours per week) or be a troop/group leader. Volunteer opportunities available statewide.

The National Ability Center — Volunteers needed to help facilitate It's a Starry Night Gala Fund-raiser Sept. 15. The evening includes a silent auction, an elegant dinner, a performance by the ability center's children, followed by a live auction and a post-party. Call 435-200-0985.

Intermountain Medical Center — Volunteer at the New Intermountain Medical Center opening Oct. 30. Various positions available: gift shop, guest services, flower delivery, ICU & surgery waiting, ER and patient visitation.

Utah Gardens — Volunteers needed to work in the gardens and with administrative responsibilities.

Festival of Trees — Needs volunteers to help in the sweet shop. Volunteers needed in four-hour shifts from Nov. 28- Dec. 1. Volunteer assignments will include cutting, bagging, marking and selling candy. Festival ticket provided for entrance. Volunteers must be at least 16.

Disability Support Center — Volunteers needed who can assist individuals with disabilities by providing bus route information or one-on-one assistance in learning their new routes in the Salt Lake area.
