STYLE: Under offensive coordinator Robert Anae, the Cougars will continue to run a spread offense. With the departure of MWC offensive player of the year John Beck at quarterback, BYU may rely more heavily on the running game. Fui Vakapuna, Manase Tonga and Harvey Unga are expected to see a lot of touches as new starting QB Max Hall acclimates to Division I football. Fortunately for Hall, the Cougars return an experienced and deep offensive line.

PERSONNEL: Besides Beck, the Cougar offense must replace tight end Jonny Harline and running back Curtis Brown. BYU has plenty of talent to compensate for those voids. The Cougars boast three solid tight ends who are athletic playmakers. BYU will also benefit from the return of WR Austin Collie, the 2004 MWC freshman of the year.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Matching last year's offensive production (36.8 points per game) would be a lot to ask of an offense breaking in a new quarterback. However, if Hall can learn to play within the offense and avoid turnovers, he has enough weapons around him to rack up yardage and put points on the board. The question is, how long will it take the offense to come together?
