STYLE: The return of Brian Johnson is expected to open things up significantly. As a sophomore in 2005, Johnson directed an offense that averaged 473 yards and 30 points per game. Johnson, who led the league in pass efficiency, has a six-pack of talented receivers in Derrek Richards, Brent Casteel, Brian Hernandez, Marquis Wilson, Bradon Godfrey and Freddie Brown. Newcomer Matt Asiata, a transfer from Snow College, gives Utah a 1,000-yard rushing threat. The tailback was a junior college all-American last season.
PERSONNEL: Johnson, Asiata and guard Corey Seuili join eight returning starters from 2006. While much has been said of Johnson's return from a knee injury and Asiata's arrival, the addition from Seuili may be the most significant. He fills a void up front created by a season-ending knee injury to fifth-year senior Jason Boone. The all-conference candidate was scheduled to start at left tackle. Zane Beadles will take over there with Seuili taking his spot inside.
WHAT TO EXPECT: With so many returning starters, the Utes should have one of the most explosive offenses in the conference. Johnson, Asiata and the "six-pack" of receivers should get them in the end zone often. Johnson's ability to run the ball gives Utah a dimension it lacked last season.
