The BYU baseball program is holding a Fall Elite Baseball Camp for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors beginning Wednesday, Sept. 18, and running every Tuesday and Wednesday through Oct. 24. The cost is $350. The camp will be held at Miller Field.
The camp is open to the first 60 players. Players will be broken down into four teams with four pitchers, two catchers, one first baseman, four infielders and four outfielders. Each pitcher will pitch once a week.
Each team will play a total of nine regular-season games (1 hour, 45 minutes each game) and two playoff games. Players will also receive eight 20-30 minute clinics, individual instruction by coaches, an evaluation packet, participate in a home-run derby and receive instruction in a recruiting seminar.
The first game each day will begin at 5 p.m. and the second game will begin between 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
"We're doing this to get kids opportunities to play more and get recruits on campus in a camp setting where we can talk to them and work with them and get them excited about our program," BYU assistant baseball coach Ryan Roberts said.
Each team will be coached by BYU coaches and players. BYU coaches will also be on the field during games working directly with the players in game-situation settings.
Prizes will be awarded to the first-place team, leading hitter, leading pitcher, best defender and overall MVP, which will be selected by the coaches.
"It's not just a league where they are going to come in and play. We're going to be roaming the field and giving instruction," Roberts said.
