A man accused of arranging the sale of a revolver that was used in the Trolley Square shootings is back in custody, accused of violating the conditions of his pretrial release.

MacKenzie Hunter, 20, was arrested Monday afternoon and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for violating the conditions of his release. Hunter and three other men were indicted last May on federal charges of selling a .38 Special to 18-year-old Sulejman Talovic. All of the men were released by court order, pending the outcome of their cases.

Talovic walked into the Trolley Square shopping center on Feb. 12 armed with the revolver and a 12-gauge shotgun. He killed five people and wounded four others before he was shot and killed by police.

Hunter had been ordered to not possess a firearm, not use any illegal drugs or alcohol, and submit to drug testing. Federal officials on Wednesday said the nature of Hunter's violation is not being disclosed.

A hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 29, when a federal prosecutor will have to tell a federal magistrate judge the nature of the violation.
