Denilson, once the world's most expensive soccer player, signed with FC Dallas of Major League Soccer.
Denilson played in two World Cups for Brazil, winning the title in 2002. The midfielder, who turned 30 Friday, fills FC Dallas' "designated player" slot, which allows MLS teams to sign players who can make more than the $400,000 maximum league salary.
Terms of the contract weren't disclosed by FC Dallas in a news release. Denilson, who played for Al-Nasr in Saudi Arabia last season, will be able to play for FC Dallas after completing the visa process, the team said.
Denilson has scored nine goals in 60 matches for the Brazilian national team. Spain's Real Betis paid Sao Paulo in Brazil a then-record $36 million for him in 1998.
FC Dallas is in second place in MLS's Western Division with 36 points, one fewer than the Houston Dynamo. Denilson de Oliveira becomes the fourth player in MLS history to have won a World Cup, joining Germany's Lothar Matthaeus, Brazil's Branco and France's Youri Djorkaeff.
