MIDWAY — Ryan Smith captured the UGA Mid-Amateur Championship Thursday with a one-stroke victory over Scott Clark at Soldier Hollow Golf Course.
Smith, who led by four strokes after the first 36 holes, shot a 76 on the Gold Course to finish at 214. Clark, who also finished as the runner-up at the State Amateur shot a final-round 73. Herb Lyons was third at 218, followed by Steve Borget and Darrin Overson at 219. Borget won the Masters Division for golfers 40 and over.
Smith, 29, from Provo, is not a tournament-tested golfer and says he plays "only for enjoyment." Smith owns his own Internet survey business and plays at Riverside Country Club.
Bill Probst was second in the Masters Division at 222.
