PHILADELPHIA — Greg Maddux became the first pitcher to win 10 games in 20 consecutive seasons, tossing seven solid innings in the San Diego Padres' 14-3 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night.
Milton Bradley hit a pair of three-run homers and Adrian Gonzalez connected twice for the Padres, who moved three games ahead of the Phillies in the NL wild-card race. Josh Bard had five of the Padres' season-high 22 hits.
San Diego entered three games behind Arizona in the West, while Philadelphia fell six behind the New York Mets in the East.
Maddux (10-9) allowed three runs and seven hits, outpitching Jamie Moyer in a matchup of 40-something hurlers with a combined 570 wins.
Cy Young had 19 straight seasons with double-digit wins from 1891-1909. Maddux is tied with Nolan Ryan for second behind Don Sutton for most seasons with 10 wins. Sutton had 21.
METS 5, DODGERS 2: At New York, Oliver Perez outpitched Los Angeles Dodgers ace Brad Penny, and New York got a dazzling all-around performance from David Wright. Wright homered, drove in two runs and made a pair of outstanding defensive plays at third base. Perez (12-8) tossed seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and overcoming five walks. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first, struck out six and threw 119 pitches to win his second consecutive start.
REDS 5, MARLINS 3: At Cincinnati, Aaron Harang won for the third time in four August starts and Cincinnati tied a season high with its fourth straight victory. Brandon Phillips had three hits, including a home run, and drove in two for Cincinnati. Harang (13-3) allowed eight hits and three runs with one walk and five strikeouts in seven innings to improve to 8-1 in his last 17 starts, dating back to May 25.
ROCKIES 6, NATIONALS 5: At Denver, Matt Holliday sparked a five-run, ninth-inning rally, and Colorado beat Washington. The Rockies trailed 5-1 going into the ninth, before Holliday hit a two-run homer, his 23rd of the year, off closer Chad Cordero (2-3).
BRAVES 7, CARDINALS 2: At St. Louis, John Smoltz worked eight innings for the second straight start and Mark Teixeira drove in his 29th run in 22 games with Atlanta, who ended a three-game losing streak with a victory over St. Louis.
CUBS 6, DIAMONDBACKS 2: At Phoenix, the Chicago Cubs and their legions made themselves at home in the desert. Sean Marshall gave up one run in six innings, Jacque Jones had four hits and the Cubs defeated Arizona in a showdown of NL division leaders.
PIRATES 8, ASTROS 3 (15): At Houston, Adam LaRoche's three-run homer triggered a five-run 15th inning and Pittsburgh beat Houston to move ahead of the Astros and out of the cellar in the NL Central.
GIANTS 11, BREWERS 6: At San Francisco, Barry Bonds hit his 761st home run and pitcher Noah Lowry had three RBIs, helping San Francisco beat Milwaukee and dropping the Brewers further back in the National League Central. Lowry hit his second career homer and Kevin Frandsen also went deep for the Giants, who have won seven of their last nine. Omar Vizquel had two hits and drove in three runs.

RED SOX 10, WHITE SOX 1/RED SOX 11, WHITE SOX 3: At Chicago, David Ortiz homered twice and Kevin Youkilis added a three-run shot as the Boston Red Sox routed the Chicago White Sox 10-1 Friday night to take both ends of a split doubleheader. In the opener, Josh Beckett (16-5) became the major leagues' first 16-game winner and Jason Varitek had four RBIs to lead the Red Sox to an 11-3 victory. The Red Sox's bats kept rolling in the nightcap and made it easy for Curt Schilling (8-5), who allowed three hits and a run in six innings. The White Sox have lost 11 of 13 and fell a season-low 16 games under .500.
MARINERS 4, RANGERS 2: At Arlington, Texas, Jose Guillen homered and drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single in the seventh.
ROYALS 2, INDIANS 1: At Kansas City, Zack Greinke and five Kansas City relievers combined on a six-hitter.
TWINS 7, ORIOLES 4: At Baltimore, Justin Morneau ended a career-long home run drought and Jason Kubel homered and drove in three runs, sparking a late rally for Johan Santana.
DEVIL RAYS 12, ATHLETICS 2: At St. Petersburg, Fla., James Shields carried a shutout into the ninth inning and Tampa Bay ended Oakland's five-game winning streak. Shields (10-8) gave up nine hits and struck out eight. The only runs he allowed were on Dan Johnson's two-run homer in the ninth. Grant Balfour closed out Shields' second win since July 17 — a span of seven starts.
ANGELS 3, BLUE JAYS 0: At Anaheim, Jered Weaver pitched six scoreless innings and the Los Angeles Angels got RBI singles from Vladimir Guerrero, Maicer Izturis and Orlando Cabrera against Roy Halladay to beat Toronto.
