FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — An own goal off the foot of New York Red Bulls defender Carlos Mendes helped the New England Revolution earn a 2-1 victory Saturday night.
Taylor Twellman's 11th goal of the season, in the first minute of the second half, pulled the Eastern Conference-leading Revolution into a 1-1 tie with New York, which had taken the lead in the 30th minute on Jozy Altidore's eighth goal of the season.
New England's winning goal came in the 80th minute when Mendes — along the right sideline — sent a 40-yard ball back toward Red Bulls goalkeeper Jon Conway, intending for a goal kick.
New England improved to 12-5-6 on the season and extended its unbeaten streak against New York in Foxborough to 10 matches (8-0-2).
The Red Bulls (10-9-3) have dropped six straight matches to New England.
D.C. UNITED 2, TORONTO FC 0: At Toronto, Brazilian midfielder Fred scored in the eighth minute to give D.C. a win, increasing Toronto FC's scoreless drought to an MLS-record 642 minutes.
WIZARDS 3, FIRE 2: At Bridgeview, Ill., Chicago's Cuauhtemoc Blanco had a goal and an assist in the win. In the 87th minute, Blanco crossed a perfect ball into the net. Fire forward Calen Carr headed it home for a 2-0 lead.
CREW 1, DYNAMO 1: At Houston, Alejandro Moreno scored in the 17th minute, and Nate Jaqua scored on a rebound in the 79th minute and Columbus and Houston ended in a tie.
