Hilda Marie Fulghum Burton
1921 ~ 2007
Hilda Marie Fulghum Burton passed away peacefully at her home in Legacy House in South Jordan, August 24, 2007. This Southern Belle was born in her home on a hot August southern day in Goldsboro, North Carolina, to Mary Ann Fulghum and Samuel Birchard Fulghum. She is the second eldest of four sisters. Hilda attended elementary through high school in Goldsboro. She had various interesting jobs such as picking cotton and tobacco, canning factory, hosiery mill, cashier, unemployment office, and much later, secretary at McMillan Elementary School in Murray for 10 years. She attended two quarters at BYU and took mostly sewing classes; she was a talented and gifted seamstress. She loved sewing clothes for family and friends. She met her handsome serviceman, Merrill from Ogden, Utah, at a church dance in Highpoint, NC. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple August 13, 1947 and made their home in Utah. She was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she enjoyed many church callings. They resided in Murray for 46 of their 54 happy years together.
Hilda is preceded in death by her loving husband (2001); and elder sister, Ila Grey "Shug" Smith. She will be greatly missed by her two sisters, Edna Grace Haymore, and Martha Raye Fulghum; four children along with their spouses, Brent (Donna), Lynn (Nicky), Rama (Bill) Johnson, and Scott (Jeri); 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren (with three on the way).
She was lovingly known as "Grandma Mouse." She will be in our hearts forever.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2007 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, UT with a viewing one hour prior to the services.
