LaVon Thomas Elliot
1927 ~ 2007
LaVon Elliott, our rock, a woman of principle and class, our beloved and devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away in Salt Lake City on August 22, 2007 after a short illness.LaVon was born on December 18, 1927, in Logan, Utah, to David James and Mae Earley Thomas. She grew up in Paradise, "the closest place to heaven on earth", graduating from South Cache High School in 1946. She graduated summa cum laude from Westminster College in Salt Lake City in 1996, and her graduation ceremony was witnessed by five generations of family.
Her professional life was spent primarily in the medical insurance field, where she was highly regarded by her many colleagues. She worked for Smith Administrators from its inception until her retirement in 2002. LaVon then spent many hours volunteering in the ER at Cottonwood Medical Center.
The most important element of LaVon's life was her family and her greatest enjoyment came while watching her grandchildren swim.
LaVon married Robert Lefavor, Roderick Elliott, and James White. She had four children, David (Terese) Lefavor of Centennial, Colorado; Barbara (Luke) Haun of Salt Lake City, Utah; Donalyn (Lyle) Mason of Bountiful, Utah; and Jeri Lee (Kyle Bruner) Elliott of Bakersfield, Calif.
In addition to her children, LaVon is survived by her sister Margene (Lowell) Bair of Smithfield, Utah; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three special nephews. She also leaves behind a legion of friends, whom she appreciated greatly her entire life. She was preceded in death by her parents, many aunts and uncles and a great-grandson, Benjamin Maxfield.
The family would like to offer special gratitude to Dr. Christopher Jones, who gave great comfort and support to LaVon and her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at Crosspointe Ward, 1327 W. 5550 S. Taylorsville. Friends may call from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, August 27, at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday morning. Interment, Paradise Cemetery at 3:30.
