Gertrud Burkhard Weixler
1910 ~ 2007
Gertrud Burkhard Weixler, 96, loving wife, mother, grandmother (Oma), and great-grandmother, peacefully left her family August 24th, 2007 having lived a full and productive life. She passed away in the arms of her family and beloved husband of 75 years.Gertrud was born, December 27, 1910 in Goeppingen, Germany to Mathias Burkhard and Anna Katharina Maier. She married Friedrich Georg Weixler in 1931 and her family grew to be the source of so much joy and happiness in her life. Her fond love of music precipitated her conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where her strong faith pioneered the way for her family who were later sealed together in the Bern Switzerland Temple,1957.
In 1958, after her two married sons moved to America, the rest of the family soon followed and settled in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her zest for life, sweet smile, infectious laugh and selfless service to her family, not only elevated those who were close to her but also to the many whose paths she crossed. Throughout her life, Gerturd labored faithfully in multiple capacities. She served in several Relief Society presidencies, served a mission alongside her husband at the Genealogical Library and worked 17 years in the Salt Lake Temple.
In the course of her life, Gertrud found great joy in family gatherings, especially those Sunday evenings playing games, following the Utah Jazz, traveling, whether at home or abroad, and knitting keepsakes for her children and grandchildren. Her gentle nature will always live in our hearts.
Gertrud is survived by her husband, Friedrich Georg Weixler; children, Werner Friedrich Weixler (Dorothy), Heinz Weixler (Rose Marie), (Hilde Weixler), Gertrud Weixler Beck (James); 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her sons, Manfred Weixler and Klaus Weixler.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 28, 2007, 12 noon at the Capitol Hill Second Ward, 413 North West Capital Street. Family and friends may call before services from 10-11:30 a.m.
