Regarding "September Dawn": Innocent victims ought not be exploited to serve a prejudiced agenda. We shame the memories of those who die at the hands of fanatics when we honor the fanatics, like Che Guevara, who ordered the murder of countless innocent people. But we also shame their memories when we use their deaths as an occasion to express our own bigotry.
We see this when people accuse Brigham Young of covering up Mountain Meadows, which implies he knew who did it but tried to protect them. "September Dawn" takes bigotry a step further, actually accusing Brigham Young of ordering the attack.
