SOLHEIM CUP: Juli Inkster is the veteran on a young U.S. Solheim Cup Team that will compete to defend its championship next month in Sweden.
The team was announced Sunday by captain Betsy King after the Safeway Classic. The team of 12 players includes Paula Creamer, the top points earner for a place on the squad, as well as captain's picks Nicole Castrale and Laura Diaz.
The other members of the team are Natalie Gulbis, Pat Hurst, Cristie Kerr, Brittany Lincicome, Stacy Prammanasudh, Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford and Sherri Steinhauer.
"We're got a lot of rookies, but we've got a lot of rookies with a lot of heart," Inkster said.
The Solheim Cup will be held Sept. 14-16 at Halmstad Golf Club in western Sweden. A team of 12 European-born players competes against the U.S. team.

GAY BEATS POWELL: American Tyson Gay surged past Asafa Powell to win the 100 meters at the track and field world championships Sunday in 9.85 seconds.
Gay had the season's best time of 9.84 seconds and was undefeated in the year coming into Osaka. Now, he has his first gold medal at a major international championship.
Powell, the co-holder of the world record, powered out of the blocks, led most of the way until he was overtaken by Gay and Derrick Atkins of the Bahamas.
Atkins took silver in 9.91, and Jamaica's Powell was third in 9.96.

MASSA WINS TURKISH GP: Ferrari's Felipe Massa won his second consecutive Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday, beating teammate Kimi Raikkonen.
Two-time defending Formula One champion Fernando Alonso of McLaren was third.
