PAGE, Ariz. — Lake Powell recreation proved dangerous for two young adults over the weekend.
A 20-year-old woman was killed Saturday on Lake Powell after the speedboat in which she was riding crashed into a rock wall.
In a separate incident, a 20-year-old man fell face-first while wakeboarding on the lake Friday and was hospitalized in critical condition, according to National Park Service officials.
The speedboat crash killed Danielle Sorensen of Delta. She was with six friends when the crash occurred, all of whom received major injuries but are expected to recover.
Authorities said the crash occurred when the driver became distracted and the boat hit a rock wall at about 30 to 40 mph.
Friday's accident critically injured Colton Dixon, of Emmett, Idaho, about 6:30 p.m.
After Dixon completed a flip, his wakeboard went under the water and he hit the water face-first, officials said.
After the crash, Dixon started having seizures and his friends rushed him to a nearby houseboat where two nurses on the houseboat began resuscitation efforts before an emergency helicopter transported Dixon to Flagstaff Medical Center. Late Sunday, he was listed in critical condition.
