Belva Louise Hampton Miller
1911 ~ 2007
Belva Louise Hampton Miller passed away peacefully on Monday, August 27, 2007 in Salt Lake City. She filled her 96 years with her fine family, dear friends and strong faith.
She was born 22 January 1911 in Ogden, eldest daughter of Ellie and Louise Howe Hampton. Orphaned in her youth, Belva and her sisters lived in the home of Wade and Etta Hampton, their uncle and aunt. She married Lenard L. Miller on March 23, 1930 in Ogden and they later solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. They moved to California on their wedding day where they reared their family. They also resided in Oregon and later in Nevada where her husband died in 1980. Since 1991 Belva has lived in Salt Lake City where she was a member of the LDS Eighteenth Ward. During World War II and again in the 1950's Belva worked for the Army Corp of Engineers in Los Angeles. She later managed the office of oral surgeon Dr. Charles Petty in Monrovia, CA. She fulfilled many ward and stake callings in the Pasadena Stake of the LDS Church and later in Anaheim and Irvine, CA. She was an enthusiastic teacher of both youth and adults over many years, and she attended a weekly CES class until two years ago.
Since she was a small child Belva has shared her musical talent by singing solos, participating in choirs and often in a trio with her two sisters Arlene Hampton Miller and LaVon Hampton Rowbotham who are both deceased.
Belva loved her family and faithfully kept in touch with each one. She also enjoyed many long-time friendships. She will be remembered for her keen mind and wit, her love of flowers, her crochet and sewing skills, her filled candy jar, and perhaps most of all for her listening ear and unwavering faith.
Belva is survived by her three children Marian L. Miller, Salt Lake City, Ed L. (Shirlee) Miller, Los Altos, CA. and Susan L. (James) Ogilvie, Brighton; her cousin Ruth (Boyd) Strong; 13 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, a 2nd great granddaughter and many valued nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 30th, 1:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, in Salt Lake City. Interment will follow at the Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd, Ogden, Utah.
Sincere gratitude is expressed to those who served Belva so kindly at the Federal Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund.
