Floyd C. Young
1938 ~ 2007
Floyd C. Young, age 69, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, Aug. 26, 2007. Floyd was born April 16, 1938 to Parley A. and Iris C. Young in Murray, Utah. He grew up in South Jordan and graduated from Jordan High in 1956 where he was a star football player. Floyd and his brother opened their own automotive repair shop/gas station when he was 17, and Floyd has continued in business for over 50 years. When he was 19, he was the youngest licensed real estate agent in the state of Utah. Floyd served a 2-1/2 year LDS mission in New Zealand that changed his life. Upon returning, and after a whirlwind courtship, he was sealed to his eternal companion, Betty Jo Liddell, in the Salt Lake Temple by Harold B. Lee. He served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. Together he and Betty were blessed with seven outstanding children who were his entire focus and the fulfillment of his life. Floyd was a dedicated member of the LDS Church and served valiantly in a variety of church callings, most recently as Gospel Doctrine teacher, which he loved. He had a deep, strong testimony of the gospel, that when shared, you knew was from his heart. He was blessed with the gift of discernment. A person couldn't look him in the eye and tell a lie. He was a man of integrity who loved working at his automotive shop with his boys and grandsons. He was able to share with them his gift and knowledge of automobiles as well as his strong work ethic. He loved to take Betty for a nightly drive to get a "Big Gulp" filled with his own special mix. Throughout their 46 years of marriage, Floyd never gave Betty much time to pack for a spur-of-the-moment road trip; this time he left unexpectedly without her.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo; sons, Paul (Deanna), David (Janae), John (Hillary), Aaron (Jen), all of Sandy; Mike (Becky), Bentonville, AR; daughters, Karen (John), Vernon; Nancy (Eldon), Provo. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, his oldest who is currently serving a full-time LDS mission in the West Indies. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma (Gene) Glover, Midvale; brother, Clark (Barbara) Young; and sister-in-law, JoeLeen (Richard) Young.
