I appreciated Lee Benson's column "Treatment of animals inconsistent," Aug. 27. Since Adam and Eve, God gave man and woman responsibility for all life assigned to this Earth. The recent debate on animal cruelty should be defined by "responsibility," "culpability," "accountability" and "morality." Laws and motives define offenses from one human to another. The same should apply to animals. Pets are especially vulnerable because man domesticated them. There should be laws protecting animals from evil, malicious, plunderous treatment by mankind.
