TOOELE — The Tooele girls soccer team doesn't like to see many opportunities slip by.
The Buffaloes played like it Tuesday.
Tooele managed to knock in two second-half goals in just a hand-full of opportunities to overcome a strong offensive Mountain View team, 2-0, in prep soccer. Meredith Nigh and Khari Golden scored goals in the victory for the Buffaloes.
Even though they came out with the victory, Tooele was dominated in time of possession by the visiting Bruins.
"We beat them in shots by about 30-2 and they win the game 2-0," Mountain View coach Sara Atuaia said. "We just didn't take advantage of our opportunities."
Mountain View looked determined at the start of the game, continually pressuring the Buffalo defense. Mountain View forward Anjie Lines created many shot attempts for herself and for her teammates with her quick dribbling moves.
One big reason Tooele was able to hold Mountain View scoreless in the first half was the play of Camarie Evans, who seemed to show up in the middle of each scoring attempt to clear the ball.
"I know the bounces very well on our home field and that helped me to get in the right position," Evans said.
Nigh didn't take long to cash in on one of Tooele's few chances. Nigh managed to come away with the ball near the goal and sent one past Bruin goalkeeper Aja Domingo.
After the Buffaloes grabbed the lead, Tooele keeper Alexis Bird stepped up her play and found herself in the right position to stymie every frantic attempt to tie up the score.
The Bruins' best chance to tie the game came after Evans got called for a hand ball, awarding Mountain View with a penalty kick. But Caitlin Boswell tapped the ball wide left to preserve the lead for Tooele.
Tooele took advantage of the missed opportunity, and Golden was able to find herself on a breakaway and converted the goal to put the game out of reach.
"We took advantage of every chance we got and I think homefield advantage helped out too with our team knowing the high bounces the ball takes on this field," Tooele coach Chris Wilcox said.
