OREM — Pierre Lamarche, a philosophy professor at Utah Valley State College, will discuss the tradition of philosophical skepticism, or disbelief in all things, at the first Ethics Forum of the school year on Sept. 5.
Ethics Forum lectures are each Wednesday in the Losee Learning Center, Room 243, from 7-8:30 p.m.
Lamarche will discuss the radical ethical theory of Emmanuel Levinas, who argued for the primacy of ethics over all other philosophy and theory. Lamarche will argue using Levinas' ironic appeal to the tradition of philosophical skepticism — disbelief in all things, including ethics — to support his view.
