An apparent home invasion early Wednesday had Salt Lake City police looking for suspects.

A woman called 911 about 1:45 a.m. and whispered to the dispatcher that someone was in her home near 1600 North 1900 West and shots had been fired, said Salt Lake City police detective Jeff Bedard.

While police were en route, the woman's husband had escaped out the back door of the house to call police from a neighbor's house, he said.

Officers found the front door of the house kicked in, shell casings in the living room and bullet holes in the wall and ceiling. The husband told police he was in the basement when he heard a crash, Bedard said.

The husband went up to investigate and found several people in his living room, he said. He ran out the back after shots were fired.

The husband, however, was not able to provide descriptions of the suspects to police. Detectives determined that nothing was taken from the house.
