OGDEN — Emergency vehicles, medical helicopters and vendors will converge on Ogden today as part of the city's emergency preparedness fair.

The first 500 people to attend will receive a stove in a can, and the first 4,000 people will receive a fun start to a 72-hour kit.

Classes on medical response to emergencies, high voltage dangers, earthquakes, 72-hour kits, sheltering, pandemics, forest fires, gas leaks and sewer backups will be offered beginning at 4:50 p.m. with a new class starting every 20 minutes.

The fair runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 2549 Washington Blvd. in Ogden.

Various agencies will provide information to residents and vendors will be on hand to sell emergency equipment.

There will also be free drawings every 30 minutes, and the city expects to give away fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors and individual and family 72-hour kits.

Free hot dogs and water will also be provided.

"If people enjoy preparing for the bad things that may happen, then maybe they'll do it," says the city's risk manager, Ron Ball.
