Just moments after he told his victim he wanted to kill someone, police say a Taylorsville man confronted a 63-year-old man at a mobile-home park and fatally stabbed him.
David Berry, 28, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail early Thursday for investigation of aggravated murder. He was being held on no bail in connection with the Wednesday night death of Isidro Cano.
Police say Berry stabbed Cano in the head and neck just after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Majestic Oaks mobile-home park, 882 W. Big Mountain Drive (4690 South). Holding a knife in his hand, Berry approached Cano and two other people and told them, "I want to kill someone" just before the attack, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
Cano was taken to University Medical Center in very critical condition and died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The man ran off after the attack. Witnesses led police to a residence in the mobile-home park belonging to the suspect's father, said Taylorsville Police Sgt. Rosie Rivera. Detectives found the man inside the residence and arrested him without further incident.
A motive for the slaying or any other information was not released Thursday.
A check of court records in Utah showed that outside a minor traffic offense, Berry had no serious criminal history.
