SAN DIEGO (AP) — Members of a teachers union demonstrating against changes in Mexico's pension system briefly blocked holiday weekend traffic Friday through the busiest border crossing in the United States.

The protesters sat down in the highway in Tijuana a few hundred yards south of the San Ysidro Port of Entry, halting vehicles heading into the United States.

A line of Mexican police in riot gear stood between the demonstrators and the U.S. border. Police estimated the crowd at 2,500, but protest organizers claimed 7,000 people were involved.
