I've just gotten word that the Diamond Lounge in Ogden is back under its old management and won't be hosting local bands any longer. The Country Club Theater was closed down by the Ogden Police Department almost as quickly as it opened. And the trend seems to be hitting Salt Lake and Provo.
If Ogden and the state of Utah want to have more economic growth, they need to shed the image of a boring, uptight, straight-laced place that dies after dark. And to do that, they need to have music and lots of it. We'll never see Ogden brought back to life if its local music venues keep dying.
