A man was found dead in a church parking lot in Kearns early Saturday after what appears to be a deadly assault.

David K. Farrimond, 42, died from stab wounds, including "at least one" wound in his chest, Salt Lake County Sheriff Sgt. Paul Jaroscak said.

His body was found in the parking lot of an LDS Church ward house at 4311 W. 5740 South by people attending a nearby party at about 2:25 a.m.

Farrimond had also been at the party earlier in the night. Investigators don't know if anyone saw him after he left the party.

"They were expecting him to return, but he didn't," Jaroscak said. "Later, when another person left the party, they found the body in the church parking lot."

Although it appears to be a slaying, there is little other evidence about what may have led to Farrimond's death, Jaroscak said. He said there are no signs of other intents, such as robbery, and that investigators are not aware of any previous altercations that may have led to the stabbing.

Anyone who has information about the murder or saw Farrimond, who may have been riding a bike, should contact the Salt Lake County sheriff's office at 743-7000.
