Donna Mae Christensen Sandstrom
1929 ~ 2008
Donna Mae Christensen Sandstrom, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully and very unexpectedly, on January 11, 2008, in Orem, Utah. She was born July 2, 1929, in
Magna, Utah, to Lehi Peter and Blanche Katherine Christensen. She married Robert A. Sandstrom (Bob) on December 9, 1949, in the Manti Temple. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Mom loved the Lord and loved serving others. She served faithfully all her life in numerous callings and capacities. She was blessed to serve as Relief Society president, Primary president, and in the Stake Young Women's presidency. Some of her favorite memories included the young women and attending girl's camp. She was a faithful visiting teacher for 58 years. She loved serving with and supporting dad as they served the Young Single Adults at BYU for more than 20 years. She enjoyed working beside Bob in the Mount Timpanogos Temple. The people with whom she served became her dearest friends.
She treasured her family and cherished the times spent together with them. She could work wonders from her kitchen and the sewing machine and you could always count on her for a good book. Her wisdom, happiness, and optimism were inspirational and ever-present in all of her relationships.
She graduated from Lincoln High School and helped plan many of their high school reunions. She was a member of the Tamiris Club and was the designated driver for some of her fellow club gals. Mom was a charter member of the "Golden Girls" dance team. She worked for Alpine School District for many years and enjoyed her association with wonderful fellow workers. She was truly loved by all.
She is survived by her husband Robert A. Sandstrom, her children: Lynn Sandstrom, Orem, Utah; Emily (Steven) Dewey, Woodland Hills, Utah; Paul (Heather) Sandstrom,
Mesa, Arizona; Marie (Tim) Roberts, Henderson, Nevada; and Joy (John) Newkirk, Layton, Utah. She was always proud of her 20 grandchildren, Erica Sandstrom Soelberg, Ryan, Alexis, Walker, and Ashlyn Sandstrom; Collyn Dewey Kirry, Jesse Dewey Stubbs, Brick, Dylan, and Gus Dewey; Austin, Landon, Tate, and Carson Roberts; Curtis,
Joseph, Katherine, Jacob, Amelia, and Michael Newkirk. Her two precious great-grandchildren Grace and Mae Soelberg. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, V Blanche Mecham, and her brothers, Lon N and Lowell P. Christensen.
