Kenneth Wayne Eyre

Kenneth Wayne Eyre, age 50, passed away on January 13, 2008.Born May 3, 1957 in Detroit, MI to Gordon G. and Laura A. Eyre. He grew up in Petaluma, CA and graduated from Heritage High School in Littleton, CO. Ken served a mission for the LDS Church in Vancouver, BC. He married Sherlyn Shumway Aug. 1979 in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised two children in the Salt Lake area.
Ken recently retired from the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office where he was a Deputy Sheriff for 20 years. His was an illustrious career where he proudly served the public in many areas including narcotics division, SWAT team, SL area gang project, Corporal in patrol, and as a detective. He received numerous awards including the Sheriff's Star for professional service and dedication to duty which is the highest honor given to any deputy. Ken was also a lifetime athlete currently recognized as a state and national power lifting champion.
Ken was a wonderful father and husband who loved the time he spent with his family and enjoyed watching them excel in their achievements.
He is survived by his wife Sherlyn, a son Nathan (Brynn) Eyre and a daughter Stephanie (Nathan) Dutson; parents, Gordon and Margene Eyre, birth-mother Laura Patterson; siblings, Darrell (Marilyn) Eyre,
Linda (Brad) Stewart, Katherine (Mike) Niedert, Ben (Holly)
Robertson, Diana (Shane) Wahlquist, Annie (Ryan) Hall, Emily (JG)
Fletcher, Jill (Ryan) Thompson, Sarah (Ed) Lamb, David (Kirsten) Eyre; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
A viewing will be held Friday, Jan. 18 from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy. (10600 S.) in South Jordan. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Harvest Park 2nd Ward at 11800 S. 4501 W. in Riverton. Interment at Memorial Estates.
