KSL radio (AM-1160/FM-102.7) may be considered one of the most conservative radio stations around, but "The Doug Wright Show" recently received a strong liberal influence with new producer Zak Kindrachuk.

The 28-year-old New Jersey native joined KSL about three months ago. Although he isn't getting air time on the show, airing weekdays 9 a.m.-noon, he is closely involved with the topics and orientation of the program.

"We thoroughly discuss every topic," he said. "I don't agree with him (Wright) on just about everything."

Kindrachuk, who previously worked in New York radio, is frequently mentioned on air, and he recently received his first hate message — so he is having an effect on the program.

So what brought him to Utah?

"I grew tired of New York aggression," he said.

The 15-minute commute he has in Salt Lake City pales in comparison to the 2 1/2-hour commute he had in New York.

He said he can't imagine a place as different as Salt Lake City, coming from New York City. "It's the little things," he said, such as the conversations in an elevator.

Kindrachuk majored in communications at Monmouth University and worked as a program director at an oldies station before going to CBS's "Free FM" talk radio in New York, where David Lee Roth also used to work.

Kindrachuk said he's now immersed in the S.L. radio market and had been doing his homework to get up to speed.

"The Salt Lake (radio) market is 10 times as interesting as New York," he said, explaining you just can't be creative there.

Keeping up with Wright is difficult, though. "I feel like I have half his energy," Kindrachuk said, adding that so far he had had plenty of freedom in his duties.

Kindrachuk helps line up guests for the show, and there's no shortage of them, he said.

"He (Doug) really does a unique program."

Kindrachuk has aspirations of being a radio host for himself some day, but for now he's happy to work with one of the best in the business.

KUUU and its sister stations at Millcreek Broadcasting will sponsor a job fair on Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Salt Lake Community College Redwood campus.
