Self-indulgence: a chronic human failing

Excellent opinion piece by Michael Otterson of the LDS Church Public Affairs Department, in response to a question posed on the Washington Post's On Faith Web site: "In Christian theology there are Seven Deadly Sins: pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed and sloth. Which of these do you think is the worst? Which is most prevalent and harmful in our society today?" Otterson contends that the Bible actually speaks of other more deadly sins than these, although he posts a link to President Ezra Taft Benson's landmark General Conference address on pride. But, he concludes, "I personally find it more constructive to concentrate on what Jesus Christ called the two great commandments: to love God and love our neighbor. On these hang all the law and the prophets. If we do that, then the sins — whether seven or seventy — can be seen in better perspective." To read the entire piece from On Faith please click here.
