LOGAN — Jaycee Carroll scored 29 points and Utah State beat Boise State 82-78 Thursday, giving coach Stew Morrill the school record with his 226th victory.

Carroll came within two points of breaking the Aggies' career scoring record while leading Utah State (13-5, 3-0 Western Athletic Conference) to the win. The senior can break the record at home Saturday against Idaho.

Gary Wilkinson added 21 and the Aggies made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal the win for Morrill, who passed E. Lowell Romney for coaching wins at Utah State.

Carroll came close to joining him in the record book despite not scoring his first points of the game until 7:50 remained in the first half. He finished 9-for-14 and scored 15 on 3-pointers.

Matt Bauscher scored 24 to lead Boise State (12-5, 3-2). Tyler Tiedeman added 20 points, Reggie Larry scored 14 and Matt Nelson had 11 points for the Broncos.

Boise State had a 13-8 lead early in the game before USU went on a 16-2 run and took a 24-15 edge with 6:05 left in the half. The Broncos closed the gap to 30-28, but Carroll scored five straight and the Aggies led 37-31 at halftime.

Morrill is 225-80 since taking over the Aggies in 1998. Romney coached Utah State from 1920-41.
